HISTORY

Flossmoor is named after the Scottish words floss, meaning "dew on the flowers" and moor, meaning "gently rolling countryside". Located just 25 miles south of the Chicago Loop, Flossmoor is a true gem of the Chicago suburbs. It’s a community where generations of the same families live within blocks of one another; residents are highly educated, multi-cultural, and involved; schools win national awards for academic excellence; posh golf courses abound and the recreational areas and park district programs are among the best in the state.

Flossmoor residents take pride in their tree-shaded neighborhoods dotted with charming homes of all sizes and styles. Young parents raise families in the same neighborhoods in which they were raised and people genuinely care about the place they call home. The traditions of excellence originally established by Flossmoor’s founders are still honored today, evident in everything from the hanging flower baskets that color downtown to the impeccable homes and carefully manicured lawns of Flossmoor’s residential neighborhoods.
